BARRY T. WINSTON: My primary focus now is criminal defense work. I've been doing lawyer work for almost 50 years. For the last 30 years or so, I have been representing people charged with everything from jaywalking to first-degree murder and everything in between. I don't think there is a crime that gets prosecuted in North Carolina that I haven't represented people for. My top priority when it comes to folks who come to see me, especially for the first time, is to try to whatever extent I can to put them at ease. They are in a situation that most of them have never been in before. They're scared to death. They have no idea what's going to happen. The one thing that I can guarantee people and the only thing I ever do guarantee anyone who asks me to represent them is that they will get my very best efforts to arrive at some conclusion of the case for them that they can live with.
