Mr. Winston is a life-long resident of Chapel Hill. He was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1961 after graduating from UNC Chapel Hill. Mr. Winston is a former attorney for Orange County, past president of the Orange County Bar Association, Member of the North Carolina and American Bar Associations, 15th Judicial District and North Carolina State Bars, North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit; U.S. District Courts, Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina and Southern District of Georgia. He is listed in the Nation Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Mr. Winston has been representing people accused of crimes, in State and Federal courts, for more than 40 years.
